Security deposit

There is no fixed deadline in this state law for returning a deposit, but there is no single return deadline, but a landlord who skips the required account or damage lists loses the right to keep any of the deposit.

Return deadlineno fixed return deadline in the statute

If the landlord is late or keeps it wronglyA landlord who does not hold the deposit in a separate account as required, or does not furnish the required damage lists, forfeits the right to retain any part of the deposit

Trap state: § 383.580(6)-(7) sets a notice structure, not a return deadline — landlord notifies the tenant at the last known address and the tenant has 60 days to respond before the deposit can be absorbed. Secondary tables that list a plain 30-day Kentucky deadline flatten this. Penalty and account rules apply in URLTA-adopting localities.
