A former Sheppard Mullin employee sued the law firm in a proposed class action filed in federal court in California, days after the firm disclosed a data breach to state attorneys general.

The firm said a security breach on August 31 exposed information including Social Security numbers and driver's license numbers, involving a limited number of documents.

The lawsuit alleges the firm failed to adequately train employees on cybersecurity and failed to maintain reasonable safeguards. The firm has not admitted wrongdoing.
